SOMEDAY I'll find it and free time in the same place....

I certainly wouldn't mind seeing a remake of GMK by the same visual effects crowd, as much as my heart lies in the land of rubber suits and practical effects. And I should also admit to viciously Monday-morning quarterbacking (or script-doctoring) on this film; if faced with calls of "let's see you do any better," I would have to creep under my rock until everyone left.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-715711610648154390.post-43856570414238245082014-10-15T21:29:56.892-04:002014-10-15T21:29:56.892-04:00I have astigmatism to the point where 3D glasses a...I have astigmatism to the point where 3D glasses are wasted on me; I don't have to pay extra money to be disappointed by a movie. And that's good news.

Thank *goodness* they got a director and a screenwriter that can make a movie that's about something. I like that we get nods to the previous movies like a little Asian kid in shorts and a baseball cap being at one of the fights, but I also like that the filmmakers show two different family reunions in the wake of the Godzilla disasters--it's a way to show that even the people the movie isn't about are important and that there's loss and terror everywhere when the monsters show up. But there is also the chance that people will pull together and get through it.

I cannot WAIT to see a Legendary-designed King Ghidorah and Mothra. And don't worry about disagreeing with me--*I* liked STREETS OF FIRE.Tim Lehnererhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02410878013331168436noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-715711610648154390.post-88814008489226949262014-10-15T18:28:45.369-04:002014-10-15T18:28:45.369-04:00Another great review, and I don't dispute the ...Another great review, and I don't dispute the conclusion, but I'm less charitably disposed to this film than you are. It has a little too much disaster-movie flavour for my taste (who will save the little girl and her adorable doggie?), a little too much reliance on keeping Ford literally underfoot, and the mechanics of the final countdown seriously sprung my disbelief suspension. Several orders of magnitude better than Broderick's outing, but it gives a sense that US studios have a serious mental block in the area of daikaiju.

...of course, I was also crabby at having to pay a surcharge for 3D glasses when I saw it in the theatre. I'm going to have to watch it at leisure now it's on disc and try to rehabilitate my opinions.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
